the automaton interns: taking the fun out of work since 2012

the inaugural blog post brought to you by sleeplessness and iphones.
There comes a time in every young person's life when they just can't take it anymore. Whether it is in the confines of a relationship, a job, or a living situation, sometimes enough is enough. For me that moment had nothing to do with the people in my life or the house where I lived and everything to do with the soul-crushing hell otherwise known as retail. What I failed to realize at the time was that as far as retail went, book retail is the lesser of all evils. All I knew was there was nothing I wanted more than to never have to hear "Where is your non-fiction section?" again. So we (Chelsea and I) got ourselves hired on as interns with a clothing retail company. Not because we were particularly drawn to clothing based retail but because it was something new and the company was offering us a way out of state (and potentially out of the country). With our brand spanking new job as interns we were on our way to rent and bill free living with a monthly stipend of "entertainment" money, as well as having the cost of travel to our internship destination covered. This was our free ride to California and what did we have to do? Sell t-shirts for thirty-five hours a week. Easy, no? So thus begins the chronicle of the heinous and ridiculous, the obnoxious and (at times) the downright boring lives of California interns.
